The Canterbury Employers' Chamber of Commerce is a membership-driven, not-for-profit business service organisation with approximately 2,550 members. Our primary role is to assist members' enterprises to be as successful as possible, with the ultimate objective of ensuring that greater Canterbury becomes the most desired place in New Zealand in which to live and do business.
The South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce and Marlborough Chamber of Commerce are associate members of the Employers' Chamber, which gives their members access to our services and enables us to advocate on behalf of 3,300 enterprises in total.
On 1 July 2008, Business New Zealand and Export New Zealand formed a strategic alliance to strengthen services to exporters.
We are the largest business support agency in the South Island and we support business in its wider sense, including the employers of labour, self-employed, not-for-profit organisations and those who are generally supportive of the objectives of the organisation. We also provide support for other business support agencies throughout the South Island.
In short, the Employers' Chamber exists for two broad reasons:
- To assist members to improve their enterprises - through our day-to-day service provision, training and development and events programmes, and our advisory role.
- To ensure our members can operate in a business friendly environment - through direct and indirect lobbying of local and central Government on issues that impact on the business community, and by working closely with external agencies that influence the business environment.
The Employers' Chamber has 100% ownership of Champion Canterbury Ltd, which manages the Champion Canterbury Awards.
In 2009, we celebrated our 150th anniversary.
