Alan Pollard

Alan Pollard is the Chief Executive of Harmans Lawyers, one of Canterbury’s largest and longest serving law firms.

He holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration (BCA) degree from Victoria University of Wellington and a Cost and Management Accounting (CMA) postgraduate qualification from Massey University. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (CA), and is immediate past president of the New Zealand chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators (ALA).

Having worked in the government and private sectors after graduating, Alan joined his first law firm in 1987 as Finance Manager which led him into General Management roles. He has managed some of New Zealand’s largest law firms, including being a part of the team that put together the first trans-Tasman law firm merger.

Alan and his wife, Miranda, live on a 20-acre lifestyle block in Ohoka where they breed Australian Lowline and White Galloway stud cows. Alan has four children who live in Wellington and are at various stages of their secondary and tertiary education. This takes him regularly to Wellington to catch up with them.

Alan has served as a Director of the Canterbury Employers’ Chamber of Commerce since 2005 and is a member of the Board’s audit committee. He also serves as a Director of the University of Canterbury Business Studies Programme Board of Studies.
