I feel very positive about the year ahead.

As the big wheels of recovery start to turn it is time to recognise that the city is heading in a new direction. We are not going back to where we were.
It is time to work on creating an environment to get capital to land in Christchurch, appreciating the unique position we are in with respect to our level of insurance. By way of comparison, insurance coverages in other areas that have faced crisis are Haiti 1%, Turkey 4%, Japan 17%, Chile 27%, while Christchurch is at 80%.
It is time to recognise the inevitable labour force shifts and associated population volatility in the context of the city’s rebuild (30,000 FTEs above business as usual at peak are expected to be required). Recruitment and retention strategies will be fundamental.
It is time for cohesiveness, for leadership and for action orientated resolve.
