Job Streams for businesses

20/06/12

It just got easier for employers to hire someone through Work and Income. Last week the National-led Government announced the $62 million Job Streams package of employer focused subsidies to help businesses hire people on a benefit.  Job Streams consists of two subsidy streams:

  • The Flexi-Wage subsidy of up to a maximum of $21,060 per year is the equivalent of the adult minimum wage for 12 months and can also be used for wrap around support and training.
  • The Skills for Industry subsidy provides up to a maximum of $7,000 to train people for a specific position.

Priority will be given to young people who are at high risk of long-term benefit dependence from 1 July this year, while sole parents subject to new work obligations from October will also qualify for Job Streams.
