In 1996 Stephen was elected a Fellow of the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand. He is also a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Management. He was a member of the Governing National Council of that body from 1994 until 1999 and represented the Real Estate Institute as a director of Realenz, New Zealand's major internet provider to the real estate industry.
Stephen is presently Chairman of Lane Neave, Solicitors, Christchurch Heritage Ltd and a member of the NZUS and NZ Japan Business Councils, plus several other directorships, advisory boards and industry groups.
Stephen was originally elected to the Board of the Employers’ Chamber in 1997. He took leave two years later to complete business commitments out of Christchurch and rejoined the Board as Vice-President in 2000 and was elected Chairman in 2002. Stephen remained on the Board as Immediate Past President until 2008 when he was formally re-elected as a Board member. He represents the Chamber on a number of local committees. After three years as President and Chairman of the Business New Zealand Council he remains on that Board as Immediate Past President.
He believes that business success can be extrapolated across the spectrum of both business and professional environments. Best practice activities apply to any endeavour and his commitment is that the Canterbury Employers’ Chamber of Commerce continually strives to provide the highest level of support for its members and success for business in Canterbury.
