Born in England, I trained as a Radio/Electronics Officer in the merchant navy. Arriving in New Zealand in 1989, I joined Tait Electronics as a production technician. Meeting my wife shortly afterwards, I stayed, became a Kiwi and raised two wonderful daughters.
The next 31 years saw me move through a number of technical and management roles in several hi-tech manufacturing companies including Swichtec Power Systems, Humanware and Bremca Industries, as well as five years with my own consulting business. For the last nine years I have held the positions of Plant Manager and General Manager for TE Connectivity, a subsidiary of the international corporate, Tyco Electronics.
I am passionate about manufacturing and technology, and the role that New Zealand can play in global niche markets. I have been an advisory board member of The Manufacturers Network since 2017. As a founder member and current committee member of Aerospace Christchurch I have a passion and a vision on where Christchurch can play in the global aerospace industry.
As well as bringing a voice for manufacturing and technology to The Chamber board, I bring experience with companies from sole trader through to multinational corporates and everything in between.
I hold an MBA from the University of Canterbury, a PMP from the Project Management Institute and various electronic engineering tertiary qualifications. In my spare time I enjoy sailing and spending time tinkering in my 'shed'.
