Black Sands Immigration Consulting started in April 2024, after the recruitment company we worked for went into liquidation. It was a stressful time, but we saw an opportunity to build something better. We had already helped hundreds of migrants in our previous roles and knew we worked well together, yin and yang, with strengths that balance each other out. We wanted to create a service that was practical, honest, and people-focused. We work closely with each client—no generic templates, just advice that fits their situation. For migrants, we help make sense of their options. For businesses, we create and support strategies to not only attract but retain offshore talent. We’re also heavily involved in the local dairy farming space. We understand the challenges farmers face and the realities their workers deal with. In our first year, we helped over 20 exploited workers recover their immigration status. We’ve run clinics, partnered with local unions, and shown up for our community in Canterbury. With immigration rules constantly changing, especially around maximum continuous stays, we help both migrants and businesses stay informed and plan ahead. We’re not a volume-driven business. We care about getting things right, being available, and making sure people feel supported. Helping people find their place in New Zealand is what we do—and yes, we have a bit of fun along the way too.
